Ban the Bottle

“BAN THE BOTTLE”TM

Soap in bottles that is ..

Here's 10 reasons to squash the bottle and bring on the bar soap (like Mountain Sage!)

1. LIQUID PUMPS on hand soap bottles are not recyclable.

2. Many people STILL do not recycle these containers either.

3. Canadian study sites 20% of product sticks to the
inside, which means WASTED $ and product!

4. liquid product is heavier to SHIP ($), contains many
ingredients that make it easy to dispense and do nothing for your skin! and ARE MOSTLY WATER!

5. High COST per hand wash ... see which lasts longer ... a bar of soap or a container of liquid.

6. Smells nicer, IF its natural!

7. Sliced Handmade bars are EASIER for small hands to use.

8. A bar of Handmade soap takes up less space than a bottle in the shower, sink or bath. And when its gone…its truly GONE!

9. Plastics LEACH into products stored and dispensed inside…see recent book…”Death by Rubber Duck” for some insight on this topic.

And last but not least,

10. Large corporations make DETERGENT liquid “soaps” which aren’t true soaps, they're much milder.

Handmade soaps are made by INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES, SUPPORT ARTISANS ! THINK ABOUT THE TOTAL IMPACT OF PLASTIC BOTTLES

and again, thank you for listening

Just ONE day for Earth day?

The trouble with Earth Day is we designate ONE DAY…but it should be everyday!

To live in a GREEN AWARE society….we need to keep the momentum of Earth Day going. Lots of consumers are now more interested than they were in the ‘70’s when all this Earth Day promotion began.  It was a good idea, but for the larger part of society, it only rose in consciousness 0.3% of the year!

Our Company, Woodspirits, began in the early days of the "Back to the Land Movement" in the 70’s. Our small shop selling Medicinal Herbs and Essential Oils grew into a wholesale body care business in the 80’s. We are still quietly selling our completely natural products, using the same edible quality ingredients and natural pigments. We have always been 100% biodegradable.

What was wrong with the packaging of a bar soap?

Are bottled soaps better for our skin? (Answer - no - They are actually complex synthetic detergents and have less glycerin than true soap)  Glycerin keeps our skin soft and transparent soaps, sometimes called “glycerin soaps”, have less glycerin than true soaps. We do not remove the naturally occurring glycerin. You can dent our soaps with the back of your thumbnail, proof that they are not milled, a process dependent on low glycerin content.

Slow death by rubber duck

Have you read "Slow death by rubber duck"?  It's a must read!

Here are some of the concerns it uncovered and what you can do to protect yourself and your family.

PHTHALATES?
Phthalates (thal - ates) are hormone disruptors which are found in “fragrances” used in lotions, soaps, as well as hair and skin products.  In Denmark, a study revealed that Phthalates rubbed on the body were found to have transferred to a persons urine.  In the book Smith and Lourie state that the terms “fragrance and parfum” are often code words indicating some phthlate content (page 42).  They are also used in plastic containers….which leach into the products.  In studies of rodents exposed to certain phthalates, high doses have been shown to change hormone levels and cause birth defects.

TRICLOSAN/MICROBAN
This product is being added to nearly any product on the market from body care products, soap and shampoos to clothing and bedding. In soap it is touted to kill bacteria, but good or bad bacteria? U.S. Center for Disease Control have found Triclosan in 75% of the 2,000 people who were tested. Dr. Stuart Levy of Tuft’s Medical Center has concerns that this product will lead to higher levels of resistant bacteria…

... "Super Bugs"

So ... what can you do?

Plain Soap, Sunshine, Fresh Air are natural antibacterials…without killing off the good bacteria that our skin needs to help us stay healthy.

As founder, owner and formulator at Woodspirits, I have always had an interest in keeping our products clear of any artificial ingredients. I am also a cheerleader for safe and minimal packaging and hope to see the end of phthalate containing liquid soap pump bottles from shelves everywhere… please understand that
the buying decisions you make effect our environment. Education is the key to achieving success in our GREEN MARKET.

I have been dedicated to this cause since the first bars of soap were made in my small kettle 35 years ago….please use your educated judgment when buying body care…and trust your indigenous heart. If the maker does not know where the ingredients come from…Beware and be aware.
